We are always told that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. While most parents have busy schedules and work 9 – 5 jobs, sometimes it easier to grab a $4 box of Fruit Loops and make a bowl of cereal each morning. Although it may be easier, have you taken out the time to research what you are feeding your children. Let’s take a closer look at the ingredients.
Kellogg’s Fruit Loops Ingredients
Sugar, corn flour blend (whole grain yellow corn flour, degeminated yellow corn flour), wheat flour, whole grain oat flour, oat fiber, soluble corn fiber, contains 2% or less of partially hydrogenated vegetable oil (coconut, soybean and/or cottonseed), salt, red 40, natural flavor, blue 2, turmeric color, yellow 6, annatto color, blue 1, BHT for freshness, vitamins and minerals.
Now let’s dive right in to the reasons!
- Sugar. Did you know that sugar is almost identical to Cocaine? Take a moment to think about that. Sugar is a DRUG. Studies show that sugar consumption affects the brain in ways like certain drugs. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics to much sugar put your children at risk for heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, tooth decay and MORE.
- Red 40. Studies show that Red 40 is linked to hyperactivity in children. Hyperactivity also known as ADHA or attention deficit disorder. As a parent if your child(ren) are in the public-school system image how hard it would be for the kids to focus. It will be nearly impossible, right?
- Blue 1 & Blue 2. Just like the Red 40 the blue dyes are linked to hyperactivity, cancer, digestive issues and allergic reactions such as: eczema, hives, puffy eyes, dry skin and more.
- Yellow 6. Research shows yellow 6 is linked to hyperactivity, learning impairment and aggressiveness. As you can see there is no nutritional value with the artificial colors listed above.
- Hydrogenated Oils. These oils contain trans fats which lower good cholesterol and increase bad cholesterol. Trans fat also increase the risk of developing blood clots within the body. All these factors can lead to strokes, heart disease and diabetes.
